About
Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
The word "Go" in Matthew 28:19 is translated from the Greek πορεύω; poreuō; Strong's Number: g4198. Vines Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words states, "This verb is to be distinguished from others signifying 'to go.' It is best rendered, as often as possible, 'to go on one's way.'”
Thus, Jesus first enjoined His Apostles to make disciples and baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. By extension, He sends all of us to do the same within the vocation for which He has designed us. If you are a plumber, make disciples as you plumb; a CEO, use those gifts to make disciples; a computer designer, use the gifts He's given you to proclaim His name as you go.
He who made us disciples, Jesus Christ does the work of "making a disciple". We are commanded to make His name known where ever we go, as we go, to tell those we meet how this Jesus came to meet us and what has happened to us as a result. The Spirit will, as He wills, use those words to pierce a heart.
As we read Jesus' words in the Bible, we see that He is using us in concert with all the powers of heaven to build His body, His church, His holy bride who He is transforming into the perfect image bearer and worshiper of the Holy Trinity.
Come and see.
